Terms of Reference for the Position of
Translator for The Syrian Negotiation Commission



The SNC seeks the services of a professional translator who will provide translation and interpretating services as follows:

I. Key Responsibilities:


● Work directly under the supervision of the SNC’s Leadership.
● Accompany the SNC’s leadership/delegations in meetings to provide simultaneous interpretating.
● Provide written translation from Arabic to English and/or English to Arabic.
● Review and edit translated materials to ensure accuracy of language, meaning and grammar.
● Ensure appropriate translation based on the SNC needs and according to the cultural and geopolitical context.
● Support the SNC Media Team in translating various media content.

II. Required Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in translation, interpreting or language studies.
● Proven experience related to translation and interpreting.
● Knowledge related to the Syrian file and/or the MENA context.
● Excellent written and spoken Arabic and English.
● Attention to details.
● Ability to respect tight deadlines.
● Good sense of communication.

III. Contract Duration

1 Nov 2024 – 31 May 2025
