The Syrian Negotiating Commission delegation meets the European Institute of Peace Think-Tank

The Syrian Negotiating Commission delegation, headed by the head of the Commission, Dr. Bader Jamous, held a meeting today, Wednesday, in Brussels with Ambassador James Moran, at the European Institure of Peace during which the two parties exchanged views on European policies towards the Syrian issue, and perceptions of the current Syrian reality, risks and challenges.
During the meeting, the head of the Commission stressed the importance of what European and international research centers are doing regarding the current Syrian situation, and their effective role in providing information, visions and suggestions to decision-makers, and the necessity for these studies to reflect the reality with its risks and challenges, and take into account the security, political and social aspects so that the analysis is more realistic, which helps politicians in decision-making centers to make the best decisions related to Syria and the Middle East in general.
The two parties discussed a set of basic topics related to the Syrian negotiations and the political solution, the European policy strategy towards Syria, and the necessity of continuing this strategy on the basis of respecting international resolutions related to Syria, and the necessity of implementing them strictly and completely, and Europe’s support for the political transition process in Syria to ensure a safe, stable and sustainable future in Syria and the Middle East.
Dr. Jamous focused on the necessity for all European studies and recommendations to focus on human rights in any efforts related to the Syrian file, and take into account the legitimate and natural aspirations of the Syrian people, and urge pressure on the Syrian regime to end violations and proceed with the political process without equivocation. The head of the Commission and members of the delegation, which included members of the Commission Mr. Anas Al-Abdah and Mr. Ibrahim Brou, and the head of the Geneva office Mr. Hussein Sabbagh, pointed out the importance of providing reliable data and analyzing this data on the security situation in Syria, violence, displacement and war crimes.
It is noteworthy that Moran has held senior positions in the European Union, including the Senior Advisor for Middle East and North Africa Affairs, in addition to heading the European Union missions in Egypt, Jordan and Yemen during the past years, in addition to his work at this center concerned with European policy studies.
