The head of the Syrian Negotiating Commission at the Commission’s office in Geneva discussed today (Thursday) with the Director of the Syria Office at the Canadian Embassy in Beirut, Mr. Rasta Daei, the importance of strengthening international efforts to support the political process to achieve a sustainable solution in Syria, most notably the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2254, and examining how to force all parties to implement it because it is the only one that guarantees the rights of all Syrians and leads to the reconstruction of the state.

The discussion also touched in depth on the suffering of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and the great risks they face if they are forced to return to Syria. He stressed the need to find ways to help them and improve their conditions, including providing humanitarian support and the necessary resources, and the need for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to work without discrimination with Syrians in Lebanon and provide them with the required support with transparency and responsibility, and the need to increase the financial resources allocated to help Syrian refugees in Lebanon and in other neighboring countries.

Many issues related to the Syrian issue and the Syrians were discussed, including the need to increase international support for the Syrians in all regions, especially northwestern Syria, as well as the importance of supporting and activating the accountability files for violations, given their priority for human rights, and using the influence of Canada and other countries to pressure the United Nations to support the political process in Syria and ensure compliance by all parties with international resolutions, in addition to the importance of providing financial, technical, training and educational support to youth and students in the northwestern regions of Syria and neighboring countries.
