In a bid to foster collaboration and establish extensive working relationships with Syrian media institutions, the Syrian Negotiation Commission, in cooperation with the Local Councils Unit, organized a (virtual) meeting through its Media Office that included numerous journalists from inside Syria, activists, graduates of media colleges, and individuals with experience in this field who work in Syrian media institutions.

During the workshop, the mechanisms of the Media Office’s work within the Commission were presented, along with the general management of media work, the importance of organization and task distribution to achieve the highest levels of productivity and accuracy, and the necessity of interconnection among the parties involved in the media process, both within and outside the Commission.

A discussion took place regarding the best means for collaboration and integration with Syrian media, as well as the facilitation that the Media Office can provide to journalists and media outlets to accomplish their tasks related to the Negotiation Commission and its activities at all local and international levels.

The Media Coordinator of the Negotiation Commission, journalist Abdullah Al-Ghadhawi, emphasized the Commission and its Media Office’s commitment to transparency in their work, their efforts to deliver information accurately and professionally, and their work to network primarily with local media, as well as with Arab and international media, to benefit and support the Syrian political process.

Journalist Ghaith Al-Ahmad from the National Coalition’s Media Office spoke about the experience of the official opposition media during the Geneva negotiations in 2014, highlighting the challenges faced by the National Coalition’s office and how they dealt with them to create an opposing media discourse that represents the voice of the Syrian street.
