Today (Thursday), Dr. Bader Jamous, President of the Syrian Negotiation Commission, commended Qatar’s supportive role for the Syrian people and their just cause. He highlighted Qatar’s steadfast stance in supporting a political solution in accordance with UN Resolution 2254 and other relevant international resolutions, emphasizing the importance of continuing this humanitarian and political support for Syrians.

In a meeting held in New York with H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar, and H.E. Ambassador Faisal bin Abdullah Al-Hanzab, Special Envoy of the Qatari Foreign Minister, Dr. Jamous stressed the importance of concerted Arab and international efforts to advance the political process. He called for the full and strict implementation of international resolution 2254 to end the suffering of the Syrians, achieve security and stability, facilitate reconstruction, and attain a comprehensive and sustainable peace.

The discussions, which took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly sessions, focused on the crucial role of Arab nations in driving the Syrian political process forward. Dr. Jamous reiterated that this role is a top priority for the Negotiation Commission. He also emphasized the necessity of not normalizing relations with the Syrian regime unless it clearly and tangibly commits to the political solution as outlined in international resolutions. The regime must cease evading its responsibilities and obligations until a political solution is realized and a governing body is established to ensure a political transition, in accordance with the stipulations of international resolutions.
