International Relations Consultant-Focus on EU

Description

Following the latest steps towards normalization with the Assad regime by certain European Union (EU) Member States, the SNCGO seeks to contract a senior consultant to enhance SNC presence in Brussels and strengthen its outreach and advocacy towards EU Instututions and Member States. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Represent the SNC in EU fora, including the European External Action Service, the European Commission, Parliament, and Council, as well  as conferences and events relevant to Syria 
  • Report to the SNC about political and institutional developments that are relevant to Syria
  • Coordinate SNC delegations outreach visits including for EU meetings and events
  • Coordinate with SNCGO for logistics and local services . 
  • Review and approve media (including social media) messaging and other outreach documents relating relations with the EU Institutions and Member States. 
  • Review and approve SNC correspondence with EU counterparts, including pre and post SNC delegation visits. 
  • Assist with all other aspects of SNC bilateral, multilateral and public diplomacy interaction with the EU and Member States . 



Skills and Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in international relations, communication, advocacy, and outreach or any other relevant domain.
  • At least 7 years of diplomatic experience, notably related to advocacy and outreach. 
  • Ability to interact at an international diplomatic and political level. 
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • An excellent understanding of the Syrian crisis and the Syrian political process. 
  • Knowledge of international protocols and the ability to coordinate high-level political events. 
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. 
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic; French is considered an asset. 

 

Deliverables

  • Timely communication with EU Institutions and Member States and other relevant stakeholders in Brussels in line with SNC objectives. 
  • Regular reporting to SNC on relevant EU political, institutional and diplomatic developments
  • Serve as a focal point for SNC outreach visits and meeting preparation and implementation. 



Contract Duration

Starting as soon as possible, until 31 December 2024. 



Duty Station

Brussels, with visits to Geneva as required.

The consultancy contract can be either with an individual contractor or with a non-for-profit organisation.
