A delegation from the Syrian Negotiation Commission, led by President Dr. Badr Jamous, met yesterday, Thursday, in New York with Mr. Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary-General and Political Director of the European External Action Service (EEAS). The discussions focused on the latest developments in European positions regarding the Syrian political process and the urgent need to advance this process in line with United Nations resolutions.

President Jamous highlighted the Syrian regime’s ongoing obstruction of the political solution and its refusal to implement the internationally agreed-upon resolutions, particularly Resolution 2254. He underscored the necessity for international support to ensure the implementation of this resolution, stressing that no party should be allowed to evade or delay its commitments. He asserted that this is the only path to achieving justice and sustainable stability in Syria.

He expressed his firm belief in the futility of any leniency towards the Syrian regime or attempts at normalization and rehabilitation. He pointed out that the experiences of the past decade have shown that the regime will not honor its obligations, will not alter its violent and repressive policies, and will not proceed with the political solution in good faith.

The conversation also addressed several pressing issues affecting Syrians, including humanitarian, relief, economic, and security concerns. The delegation elaborated on the dire circumstances faced by Syrians throughout the country and the millions of displaced individuals who are awaiting a political solution to enable their return to their homes and lands. Additionally, the discussion included the critical issue of detainees and the forcibly disappeared, emphasizing the need for concerted international efforts to resolve this matter and to secure the release of all detainees held by the Syrian regime, as well as to clarify the fate of those who have been forcibly disappeared.
