The head of the Syrian Negotiating Commission, Dr. Badr Jamous, discussed with the Head of Humanitarian Affairs at the German Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, Mr. Jan Deuter, and the Human Rights Officer at the Mission, Dr. Christopher Schipper, the European Union’s strategy towards Syria, and the necessity of its steadfast support for the political solution in Syria and linking all files to the Syrian regime’s acceptance of compliance with international resolutions, and implementing the political solution in accordance with what is internationally agreed upon.

During the meeting held today, Friday, at the office of the Negotiating Commission in Geneva, he praised Germany’s firm positions in the European Union Council, its interest in implementing international resolutions related to the political solution in Syria, and its refusal to normalize relations with the Syrian regime or lift sanctions or discuss reconstruction as long as it continues to refuse to comply with UN Resolution 2254.

Dr. Jamous stressed the need to restore consideration to the political process and the international resolutions related to it, and to make the Syrian issue among the priorities and concerns of the European Union, and to seek a unified pressure position at the level of the United Nations for an effective process towards implementing international resolutions, especially Security Council Resolution 2254.

He thanked Germany for the support it provides to the Syrians, on the political, diplomatic, humanitarian and relief levels, and expressed his hope that this aid will increase and that the dire need of the Syrians will be taken into consideration, in addition to the need to pay attention to the issue of Syrian refugees, especially those living in tragic conditions in Lebanon, and those returning to the northwestern regions of Syria.

He briefed the German mission delegation on the efforts made by the Commission to strengthen partnership with civil society, unions and professional associations, and with youth and women in particular, and the programs it harnesses for this purpose in order to expand the base of participation in the political process, and mobilize the energies of the Syrians in this regard.

The head of the Commission briefed the German envoy on the latest activities of the Commission and its meetings at the Security Council and international levels, and the Commission’s political and diplomatic plan for the next stage.
