Dr. Bader Jamous, President of the Syrian Negotiation Commission, underscored the crucial role of the international community in supporting a political resolution to the Syrian cause. He emphasized the significance of a unified European stance on a political solution aligned with international resolutions, asserting that this is the only path to achieving sustainable stability in Syria.
This statement was made during a meeting held by Dr. Bader Jamous today, Wednesday, in New York. The meeting included a delegation comprising the President of the Syrian National Coalition, Hadi al-Bahra, and a member of the Negotiation Commission, Dima Moussa. They met with the Director-General of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Veronika Stromšíková, and the representative of the First Committee, Ms. Petra Hofírková. The discussions focused on the necessity for all parties to adhere to a political solution to the Syrian cause as stipulated by international resolutions, emphasizing the futility of any attempts to circumvent these resolutions, which are the only means to end the conflict and stabilize Syria.
During the meeting, held within the framework of the General Assembly in New York, Dr. Jamous reiterated that negotiations within a political process that achieves a political transition—ensuring the participation of all parties and addressing the demands of the Syrian people—are the only means to guarantee security and stability.
The Syrian opposition delegation discussed several pertinent issues with the Czech Foreign Ministry delegation, including the challenges of rehabilitating the Syrian regime, its ongoing policies of repression and exclusion, and the absence of a safe environment in Syria that would allow for the secure and guaranteed return of refugees and displaced persons to their homes. The opposition delegation also highlighted the deteriorating humanitarian conditions across all Syrian regions, the persistent human rights violations in Syria, and the urgent need for the Syrian regime to release all detainees and ensure they are not subjected to arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance.
