October 13, 2024 The Geneva Office of the Syrian Negotiation Commission organized a two-day virtual dialogue session with political science students at the Free Aleppo University. During this virtual session (which concluded yesterday, Saturday), a comprehensive explanation was provided about the office’s work, its main tasks, working mechanisms, and its role in coordinating the relationship between the commission’s leadership and international organizations. Hussein Sabbagh, the director of the Geneva office at the Negotiation Commission, spoke about the commission’s approach to building strong relationships with international organizations, especially those specialized in human rights and civil society. He emphasized the importance of the external relations conducted by the commission’s leadership in Geneva and other European capitals. He addressed the Syrian negotiation process in Geneva, the regime’s obstruction of these negotiations, the challenges faced, and the impact of the unstable regional and international situations on the political solution in Syria. General discussions took place during the dialogue session regarding the necessity of encouraging political science students to participate in the political process, whether through their studies and initiatives or by engaging in political work, which the commission’s leadership actively promotes and facilitates for young people to play a role in the Syrian political and negotiation processes.
