Tarek Alkurdi, a lawyer and member of the Syrian Negotiation Commission, represented the commission at a working meeting organized by the Syrian Educational Platform, hosted by the Assistance Coordination Unit, to discuss the educational challenges and needs in northern Syria.
During the meeting, Alkurdi addressed the state of education in the northwest region of Syria, highlighting the legal, economic, and technical challenges faced by this sector and its workforce. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding the future of the Syrian youth and the necessity of implementing UN Resolution 2254 to achieve a democratic political transition, as this is vital for the stability of all sectors in Syria, particularly education.
The meeting was attended by 26 representatives from various organizations within the educational platform. They reviewed the school report for the 2023-2024 academic year, issued by the Information Management Unit, which revealed significant difficulties faced by schools in camps and affected areas. The meeting also underscored the urgent priorities for the year, including support for teachers’ salaries, provision of school supplies, and improvement of infrastructure.
The participants recommended the development of a comprehensive strategy to support education, which should include the unification of curricula and the provision of necessary training to ensure an effective and inclusive educational process.
