The head of the Syrian Negotiating Commission, Dr. Badr Jamous, made a phone call to the Special UNl Envoy to Syria, Mr. Geir Pedersen, during which he stressed the necessity of the United Nations moving to push the political process forward in a real and urgent manner in order to ensure a safe environment for the returning Syrians who have lost patience with the regime’s procrastination and rejection of all peaceful and rational solutions.
During the meeting, the head of the commission called for tangible and urgent action by the United Nations to secure aid for returnees to their long-awaited villages and cities, which the Syrian regime has only been interested in managing in terms of security and leaving them to suffer economically and in terms of services for years.
Dr. Jamous said that the Syrian regime’s refusal to move forward with the political solution and its disregard for international resolutions related to Syria for more than 13 years has made Syrians lose patience, but it has not made them lose hope for a victorious return to their homes and houses from which the regime displaced them, pointing out that the regime’s procrastination and negligence create many threats and explosions at the national level. He strongly called for supporting the people of Aleppo and enabling them to manage their city and protect them from the regime and its allies’ bombing of this ancient city that is capable of welcoming millions of its displaced and expelled people over a decade, pointing out the need for countries to support their safe return and help them secure a decent life that gives Syrians hope for a better future after the regime has made them lose any hope in the present and the future.
He stressed the importance of the Syrians returning to a safe and neutral environment in accordance with international resolutions, and that this is the responsibility of the United Nations, and that the Security Council must change its strategy so that it forces all parties to implement international resolutions fully and urgently, especially Resolution 2254, in light of the Syrian regime’s rejection of all offers and initiatives proposed by Arab countries and the international community, and it is still continuing with the same comprehensive security mentality, and the same oppressive method that is based on violence, repression, arrest and displacement as a means to remain in power.
