Today (Tuesday), the President of the Syrian Negotiation Commission, Dr. Badr Jamous, held discussions with the French Envoy to Syria, Mr. Jean-François Guillaume, regarding the latest developments in the Syrian issue and ways to cooperate in advancing the political process in accordance with UN resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 2254.
During a virtual meeting via video conference, they addressed the key issues that the Syrian Negotiation Commission will present at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Dr. Jamous emphasized the crucial role of France in the Syrian matter, especially in light of recent developments and actions taken by some EU countries. He highlighted the need to continue and enhance existing EU policies to improve the living conditions of the Syrian people across all regions within Syria. Simultaneously, he stressed the importance of pushing the political process forward through negotiations that lead to a comprehensive political solution fulfilling the aspirations of the Syrian people.
Mr. Guillaume reaffirmed that France’s policy towards the Syrian issue remains unchanged and that the EU’s official stance will remain consistent as long as the Syrian regime does not engage in a serious political process and fails to take concrete steps to implement relevant UN resolutions. He also reiterated France’s support for the Syrian opposition, represented by the Syrian Negotiation Commission, and underscored the importance of collaborating with them to improve the conditions of Syrians both inside Syria and in refugee-hosting countries, while setting priorities in light of internal and regional developments.
