The President of the Syrian Negotiation Commission, Dr. Badr Jamous, held a phone call with the British envoy to Syria, Mrs. Ann Snow, during which they discussed ways to advance the political process in accordance with international resolutions. They also consulted in preparation for the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, which begins on September 10.

During the call, Dr. Jamous reviewed the developments in international policies concerning the Syrian issue, as well as the political, security, and humanitarian situations inside Syria and in refugee-hosting countries. He emphasized the need for the international community to exert pressure through all means, especially in the UN Security Council and the General Assembly, which will particularly focus in its upcoming session on “promoting peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for all.”

The President of the Commission also highlighted the need for European countries and the United States to take action at the Security Council level to push the Syrian file forward and proceed with a political solution in accordance with international resolutions, especially the Geneva Communiqué and UN Security Council Resolutions 2254 and 2118. Simultaneously, he stressed the importance of continuing support for Syrians in liberated areas and ensuring their protection in refugee-hosting countries.

For her part, Mrs. Snow affirmed the need to proceed with a political process in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and to implement this resolution fully and rigorously. She reiterated her country’s position against normalizing relations with the Syrian regime or lifting sanctions without clear and tangible steps towards a political solution as agreed internationally, as well as her country’s support for the legitimate demands of the Syrian people.
