The SNC holds an urgent meeting to discuss developments
The situation requires the implementation of 2254 and the start of the Transitional Governing Body

The Syrian Negotiating Commission held an emergency meeting yesterday via virtual communication, attended by the head of the SNC, Dr. Bader Jamous, and members of the Commission representing all its components, to discuss the recent military and field developments following the launch of the military operation towards the city of Aleppo and its western countryside and the eastern countryside of Idlib, and to discuss its political and humanitarian repercussions, and to address the opportunities and challenges it imposes on the political process.
The leadership of the body decided to continue the head of the body’s contacts with the Arab League, the United Nations, the international envoy, and the Western countries active in the Syrian affair, in order to push towards starting a real and comprehensive political solution in accordance with the Geneva Statement and international resolution 2254. It also decided that the body would remain in a permanent session, and the president would call for virtual meetings whenever necessary, while stressing that the political opportunity is great to forcefully return the Syrian file to the international table, and the necessity of investing this event politically in order to reactivate the entire political process and form a national governing body in Syria in accordance with what is stipulated in international resolutions from the Geneva Agreement to 2254.
During the meeting, the head of the SNC indicated that the administration of any area outside the regime’s authority by its people is in the interest of the Syrian opposition, and that the SNC sees a great opportunity in the administration of Aleppo by its people for the return of the displaced and the displaced and ending the state of the camps, which is a real opportunity to start a serious political process and create a safe and neutral environment. He said that the military operation in Aleppo confirms the weakness of the Syrian regime and its inability to manage its areas, and also confirms the urgent need for a comprehensive political solution so that similar military operations do not occur in the south and Sweida, and the necessity for the Authority’s position to be moderate and supportive of the return of the displaced and refugees to their homes, while calling on the international community to secure their protection and support them in managing their areas and supporting them in terms of livelihood and humanity.
For his part, the head of the Syrian Interim Government and member of the Syrian Negotiating Commission, Abdul Rahman Mustafa, presented his vision of the recent military developments, indicating that the return of the city of Aleppo and the surrounding areas to the control of the liberated areas is a severe blow to the Syrian regime’s theory that promotes its military victory and the extension of its complete control.
The representatives of the military factions in the SNC, Yasser Abdul Rahim and Muhammad Haj Ali, provided a briefing on the developments of the military operation in Aleppo, and on the “Dawn of Freedom” operation launched by the Syrian Interim Government.
There was agreement on the necessity of investing the recent field developments politically in order to activate the political process at the international level, and to assign the leadership of the body to follow up its contacts with the Arab League, the international envoy, the United Nations, and the envoys and representatives of the countries active in the Syrian affair for this purpose.
