- Leader in the Communist Labor Party, spent more than 17 years in the regime’s prisons.
- Leader in the National Democratic Gathering until 2011.
- Former Executive Office member of the Damascus Declaration for Democratic Change.
- Head of the Media Office for the Damascus Declaration for Democratic Change until 2008.
- Founding member of the National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change.
- Former Deputy Coordinator-General of the National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change.
- Former Secretary-General of the National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change.
- Arrested three times after 2011.
- Participated in numerous conferences representing the Syrian opposition in Cairo, Moscow, and Riyadh.
- Banned from returning to Syria following his participation in the Moscow 2 Conference at the end of 2014.
- Elected Secretary-General of the High Negotiations Commission for two terms after the Riyadh 1 Conference.
- Elected Secretary-General of the Syrian Negotiation Commission after the Riyadh 2 Conference.
